The Village Link

This is a a unique trail of a little less than 18 miles in total linking six of Bury’s most  historic villages – Holcombe, Hawkshaw, Affetside, Tottington, Greenmount and Nangreaves.  There is an excellent web site which provides leaflets describing the route in seven separate sections 2 – 5 miles long.  The route is comprehensively way-marked, largely due to the efforts of John Ireland, a village resident, and the project was coordinated by BRIF (Bury Rural Inequalities Forum), whose current Chair, Dr Falmai Binns also lives in the village.

The photo at the bottom of this page was taken during a walk organised by the Holcombe Society and led by John Ireland along the Village Link from Holcombe to Ramsbottom.

The June 2016 edition of Lancashire Life includes an article on the Village Link with a photo of the people involved.  The magazine has kindly given permission for us to include it on this web site. Click here to see it.
